Indoctrination is a crucial aspect of becoming a part of a community, a culture, or even a company. When I got hired on to my current job, part of the on-boarding process was reading a few memos by the CEO, talking with a few people in the office about the culture, and then writing a two page summary about what the culture of the company was and how we can contribute to their particular way of doing business. It was an intentional exercise in indoctrination; in encouraging us to think the way they think.

We married young; 21 didn't feel so young back then. I had dated before, you did also. We both loved and lost long before we met. We made mistakes and allowed our hearts to get broken more than once. And we talked about these things religiously with each other at the start, as if it really mattered. We clung to this idea that the most important thing to be honest about was our past; lines we crossed and the few we didn't. Little did we know, our past mistakes will prove not to matter very much.
